16-Shaft Draft, Geeky Stuff, and Lovely Hands

 Later this week, when the January/February 2011 issue of Handwoven starts arriving in mailboxes, you will notice a reference to 16-shaft drafts for Laura Fry's "Say It" scarves. We'll soon be posting this information here on Weaving Today within the Free Stuff/Projects gallery. Laura's handwoven scarves (see photo left)  will certainly inspire you to find your own special  way of saying it through your handwoven textiles.

You may also want to check out Syne Mitchell's way with words at http://weavezine.com/weavegeek/good-geeky-fun. Sounds like she had a great time on Whidbey Island last week! She also goes into some techy stuff and describes the Combby Serial Interface developed by John Acord of Flatwater Electronics. This geeky gadget allows owners of the Schacht Combby and J-Comp weaving looms to operate with a current computer. Dang! Not too long ago, I had an opportunity to purchase one of these used weaving looms and passed because of the computer  issue. For more info on this interface, see page 12 of the Jan/Feb issue of Handwoven.

 

Finally, in this Wednesday's enewsletter, Anita gives us a sneak peak at Jane Patrick's upcoming DVD Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom. When you preview the video, I want to call your attention to her captivating hands (see photo right). I suppose as craftspeople, hands are something we notice, especially hands that weave.
