What’s your
idea of a perfect night on the town?
Is it getting dressed up and going to the
opera? Would you prefer to attend a gallery or museum exhibit opening? Maybe
your ideal night is heading to a downtown coffee shop or cafe with friends to
laugh and socialize. Whatever your ideal night on the town might be, our 2013
Handwoven Garment Challenge is about weaving your perfect outfit or accessory
for that perfect evening.
From January 17 until March 15, we’ll be accepting entries for the challenge so you
have plenty of time to start planning and get creative. Don’t sew? Make a
loom-shaped garment or collaborate on your project with a friend who does. This
year we have a category just for accessories, which means scarves, shawls, and
other adornments will be accepted as entries.
Whether you’ve been looking for an incentive to turn your handwoven
cloth into clothing, or have been sewing what you weave for a long time,
this is the contest for you! And if you don’t sew, no worries: find a
seamstress or seamster and team up on a garment! Or team up with a
spinner if you want to use handspun yarn but don’t spin.
Check out the entry form
and get creative!
General Rules: 1. All garments must be the original design
of the weaver. Judging will be based on the originality of the piece as
well as the mastery of the chosen technique.
2. Please keep a Project-At-A-Glance worksheet. A completed worksheet
must be submitted with each contest entry. You can download one as a
PDF or Word Document here.
3. Only photographs will be accepted for the first round of judging.
If selected as a finalist, the finished piece must be sent to Handwoven.
