Hi, I'm planning to tie a warp on to the warp I am finishing now, but it will be at half the sett. Can I do this? I will need to resett it in the other reed before I wind it on won't I, but I'm not sure the best way to do this.

I had a project that I needed to resley to a closer sett after it was already wound on and tied to the cloth beam. I untied from the cloth beam and resleyed from the center, in both directions, and that part actually worked correctly. But the problem that resulted was that the warp coming in from the warp beam was quite a bit wider than the reed. I ended up unrolling the warp I had wound on, adjusting its width on the warp beam, and then winding it on again. I'm sure one of the older and wiser weavers can tell us both how to do this more easily!

Thanks, that is exactly what I'm worried about as it will be sett at half the threads per inch so it will be twice as wide!

I was wondering if I could hang the second reed above the one that is threaded and rethread straight from one reed to the other, then knot on the new warp as I go. I may just have to experiment. The idea (from Madelyn) of weaving an inch so that the threads are held in the correct order sounds like a very good one too!

I've now solved the problem by chopping off the old warp too hurriedly and letting it all fall out of the reed and heddles before I remembered what I had planned to do.

So now I'll have to just rethread it. One less thing to have to work out!

Thanks anyway for your input!

Oh, my, I've done this myself. I was going to tie on new warp to old in the *same* sett (and threading) and thought, "Aren't I efficient?!?"

Pride goeth before the fall...

I neglected to secure the warp (back) apron before cutting off project #1; it's weight pulled all the threads out! Sigh... ah, well, one lives, and (hopefully) learns.
