SWIFT has joined the 21st Century!  In May, 2010, SWIFT launched a new website at www.swiftindiana.org.  This website replaces the printed newsletters and provides more up-to-date information, photos in color and faster updates.  SWIFT serves as an umbrella for all fiber and textile guilds in the State of Indiana.  If you have a fiber or textile guild in Indiana that you would like listed on SWIFT, please feel free to send the information to swift.newsletter@yahoo.com.

The Spinners and Weavers of Indiana – Fibers and Textiles (SWIFT) supported four youth teams from Conner Prairie History Park at the Indiana State Fair during the annual sheep-to-shawl competition.

The teams included last year's winners, an all male team, called The Pirates of the Treadle. The Traveling Gypsies took the blue ribbon this year. The weaver of the group is new to the craft and did a fantastic job. The teams prewarped their looms before the competition. They had four hours to card, spin, ply, and weave their scarves. The scarves had to be between 60 and 62 inches in length and 8 to 10 inches in width.

Winning scarf from The Traveling Gypsies is third from the left.
