Study Group and Weave Alongs

Weaving study groups and weave-alongs are great ways to study structures and drafts in-depth while also having a great time with your fellow weavers.

Ocean fingers

Momma has been working hard on this one. We found  tutorial on inclusions and this was the piece that came out of that run. Love the design and it looks like the ocean fingers left behind when the wave goes back out to see. We walked the entire yard looking for the perfect branch and…

Summer and Winter Color Gamp Sample 2

This is my version of Anne Dixon's Summer and Winter Gamp.  I have other colors of 20/2 cotton than the rainbow. It is very interesting so far – back to the loom to see the other iterations of tabby and pattern weft.

Four Color Double Weave done on a tied weave system

This is my version of the effects of Four Color Double weave, but woven in a tied weave instead.  This is a two-tie weave of my own design, woven in hand dyed silk.  The warp is sage green and eggplant, the wefts are fuchsia and royal blue.  I love the way I can get four…

linen waffle

These tea towels are woven on a fine cotton warp, around 2/20, with linen weft. The natural linen is 2/28, some of the coloured stripes are thicker (linen tow) or I have used fine singles linen doubled (but this has caused some problems with loops on the selvedges!).

These tea towels are woven on a fine cotton warp, around 2/20 sett at 24 epi, with linen weft. The natural linen is 2/28, some of the coloured stripes are thicker (linen tow) or I have used fine singles linen doubled.

Fine linen waffle

These tea towels are woven on a fine cotton warp, around 2/20, with linen weft. This one uses a fine singles linen doubled, in a lavender grey colour, (as you can see this has caused some problems with loops on the selvedges!), and green 2/28.

Waffle draft 1

The original draft which gives long floats. I've shown the colour changes in warp and weft, though the effects of this don't really show up on the draft.

Change in tie-up

The top samples show the amended tie-up to give shorter floats (these samples were not washed). The bottom sample is from the original tie-up – this is quite sloppy and sleazy compared to the tighter weave with shorter floats. This was on 6-shafts. 4 shafts would give shorter floats anyway.
